A day of railfanning, hell or high water. That was the plan - and high water we got! It poured all day but we started at about 07:30 and went through until about 19:30 - 12 straight hours of railfanning in, mostly, Ingersoll.
Zorra, Ontario
(map) Just outside of Ingersoll is Zorra Station. It contains a large Lafarge plant and the CP Galt sub.

Steve, Laura and I headed to Ingersoll to railfan. We met Walter there first thing in the morning and Chris joined us in the afternoon... it was a real party!

Our first big trip in my new car... Chris, Steve, and I went to Ingersoll hoping to catch a lot of CN trains. We ended up catching more CP than CN, including a meet at the Beachville siding normally used for parking freight cars.

Laura and I tried to go to Ingersoll for the day and found it dead as a doornail. After several hours of boredom, we headed for home and the parade finally started. We went on to the small community of Creditville where we watched the parade until we got too hungry.

We went to get Jay at Woodstock and spent the rest of the day mostly in Ingersoll watching what there was to see. CN 271 had a UP in second, and 399 had a UP and a CSX engine. Not a bad day on the foreign power front.

I heard CEFX 1037 and CP 6607 West approaching the Junction. By the time I got to the tracks, I saw the tail end of the second train, and decided to head West. I got a couple of minutes ahead of both trains at Zorra siding, some 56 miles West of where I'd seen the tail end. CP 6607 was leading 2 other SD40s and had 532 axles.

CN seemed like a good place to go, so I spent a few hours at the Ingersoll Via station. On my way home, I saw an approach signal under the 401 and went up to the first crossing South of the highway to catch Ham turn and its whopping 22 axles.

Greg warned of CN #399 with a war bonnet leading, so we went west for him, getting distracted by CP trains along the way. We caught CP #241 at Killean and again at Woodstock where it and #159 met #240, stopping at Zorra for CP #158 and finally heading down to Ingersoll for CN #385, CN #399, and VIA #73.

We got an early start, leaving Guelph at 6:30, and chased a plow run from Stratford to Goderich on the GEXR. We then returned to Stratford to shoot some parked Class 66s (in tarps) and some KCS units in the yard, then headed to Zorra where we reported a defective crossing and shot CP 153, 138, T69, and 245. From there we went to Ingersoll and shot VIA 76 and CN X368, an army move that I did not know was coming. We chased that to Creditville and called it a (good) day.
