Canada Day 2003, we went on a large circle route catching both CP and CN over the course of several hours.
Guelph, Ontario

Puslinch, Ontario
(map) This community straddles highway 401 from West of Guelph Junction to Killean on the CP Galt sub.

Bayview Junction, Ontario
(map) This is where the CN Oakville, CN Grimsby, and CN Dundas subdivisions meet at a great big wye, beside which is the CP Hamilton sub. This location encompasses CN Bayview Junction, Hamilton West, and Hamilton Junction.
Lynden, Ontario
(map) This town is East of Brantford on the CN Dundas sub and once hosted the South end of the CN Fergus sub.
Brantford, Ontario
(map) This is the home of the Southern Ontario Railway, part of the large-and-growing family of Rail America, and also houses the CN Dundas sub. It is between Paris and Hamilton.
Ayr, Ontario
(map) Ayr is between Wolverton and Cambridge on the CP Galt sub and houses a small backtrack yard and the Ayr Pit Spur.

The Guelph Historical Railway Association's caboose was moved from its parking place in Guelph to Guelph Junction for an NMRA presentation of Guelph Junction and GHRA's possessions's on July 14th.

After suffering cabin fever, we went to to kill a few hours at Guelph Junction and saw two trains on the Hamilton sub and one on the Galt sub.

Laura had to go the license bureau on Woodlawn, so we stopped at CN Guelph Junction on the way back to catch GEXR 580 heading up the Fergus spur.

Three of us headed out to the Halton sub just south of Milton on the CN Halton sub to see what we could see. We sure saw. The day started with a train with dragging equipment, and, in exchange for fetching coffee, we got a tour of an SD75i cab, and didn't get worse for the next 6 hours.

Blocked by a train with dragging equipment two miles away in Boyne, this 6 car, 3 engine train backed down some distance and would later reemerge attached to another train.

Ever wonder how those hy-rails actually got on the tracks? Well, in a lucky turn of events, we got to watch one and I recorded most of the event in this video. Unfortunately, my flash card filled just as the foreman was wrapping it up.
